Brazilian Philately: The Pan Am Zeppelin Flight of 1930

WHAT'S NEW?

This section is for those half-a-dozen people (that many?) who might once in while look in and want to know what has been added or modified. The latest is always on the top.

Although I have a section for comments, this one is so fundamental that I would like to state my opinion here.

October 2011: For better or worse, I'm back. Had to neglect my site and move to the better part of Germany, i. e. Berlin and the North. Some call themselves Bavarians first, or Swabians, I'm Prussian. After a lot of grief with greedy and arrogant landlords, neighbors that smoke like crazy and pollute everybody's air, and small town mentality (the next village is a foreign country), I#m glad to be in the Big City. Note the address etc. change under Contact.

Having more fun and time, I'll start soon on the Sieger 59I catalog and the von Meister #s list.

February 2011: Taken a complete new look at the M.P. Question and found several new and relevant aspects.

January 2011: A recent article in Linn's led me to look for any Richard L. Singley covers I might have in my collection. Thus I found a most interesting example of a cover used twice on this flight.

October 2010: Just placed an article about some covers that I consider to be frauds and non-kosher.

September 2010: Finally, but with no thanks to the Wells Fargo Bank, I've managed to write the previously announced Pernambuco-Rio mail article. I hope you ever oversees the forum will finally keep his eye on it.

August 2010: Back among the living after a bout with res. Finance. The latest addition, Pernambuco-Rio mail, is a reaction to the case mentioned in my opinion comment above. For the future, mainly smaller less important aspects will be dealt with. Only two major aspects are left yet. Before the end of the year I plan to deal with both. The first is a copy of my von Meister numbers list, as an aid for serious collectors to check their covers. The other major contribution will be a workup of the 59I covers (i. e. 5$000/1$300). I've kept book on these over the years and hope to show how to separate the wheat from the chafe.

March 2010: Have started looking at some of the BoB stuff. Beginning with the airmail labels used in Brazil on the flight, including some “enhancements” that occur ever so often.

Now revamped the general section. New “Stationarysection with the Condor, FBC and now the official Brazilian PO stationary used on this flight. Soon to come, a section about US air mails envelopes and etc. USA just added.

February 2010: After a short trip to three cities and a bad cold, have done a revamp of the cancels complex to make it easier to use for those who are only looking for the cancels of a special country. This keeps the file size and download time down.

A lot more (countries) added to cancels.

Major addition to the cancels section USA, including NY Paquebot used on this flight.

December 2009: More cancels – Brazil/Condor used on this flight.

November 2009: After an R&R in Malta, I've added to the cancels section (Rio de Janeiro) and a non-philatelic tidbit about merchants and the Zeppelin arriving. (29/11) finished an additional section about the Recife cancels (cancels) with info that you won't see anywhere else, the results of my research in Brazil, I've discovered the company that manufactured the canceler.

October 2009: The beginning of a section dealing only with the cancellations and similar postal markings makes its appearance. This Cancel Vade Mecum will be constantly in flux, as new countries and cancels are added. A “work in progress”, sometimes more, sometimes less.

September 2009: Finally got around to writing the Havana and Points South article, with the infamous Roessler “Parachute” covers being, among others being discussed. And associated with this, the Roessler article has been expanded

New material has caused an update of the Bahia-Chicago Gang article.

August 2009: A holy grail for collectors is truly commercial mail on Zeppelin flights. Here are some bona fide examples of commercial mail on the 1930 flight. This includes covers sent by a representative of the now defunct Great Lakes Aircraft Corporation (Mr. Leonard Ludwin).

Three new dealers added to the list, Walter Behrens, Dr. Karl Blümel and Rudolf Friedl.

Finally got around to writing Bahia I, about a group of Chicago covers to have been dropped at Bahia. And then the second Bahia, the Paul K. Owen Cards.

And, just the last minute, more Bernet stuff. Fred found the the numbering device and pictures plus comments is this the latest and now comprehensive version concerning the Newark Stamp and Coin Co.

July 2009: Added an article originally meant for the American Philatelist, but with no response to my e-mails, I've added it here. In the vein of some articles by Dr. Ganz, the picture postcards used on this flight give a snapshot of the life and times on three continents.

Dealer – Bernet has been redone with a surprising twist that adds a lot of new information about this covers

Dealer – Heck has been actualized with new material added

Added are now the dealers Dewitz, Mrs. Rascher, Charles Winchell and Louis Guenzel. Also, under general topics, a short index of the numbers one encounters on covers of this flight

June 2009: The site has gotten a fairly encompassing remake, with the initial graphics reduced to speed the download.

Only the glossary and the Bernet article aren't done yet. In the latter case, new information will cause the article to be substantially modified, due to a raft of new information
